Andy lives on a small farm in Decatur, TX with his wife, Amanda where they raised their 3 sons. The family left suburban life in Denton in 2010 to pursue their dream of living in the country. They had a rough start while trying to figure out how to corral Limousin cattle, but eventually got the hang of the farming thing. The farm currently has a pecan orchard, fruit orchards, large gardens, laying hens, and seasonally is home to pastured chickens and turkeys. The family has also bred and raised Nubian dairy goats and Barbados Blackbelly sheep. Raising sheep taught them to prefer cows. Andy joined the Texas State Guard in 2014 as a way to serve Texas. He is currently a Chief Warrant Officer (CW3) assigned to T6 in the TXSG HQ in Camp Mabry in Austin. Andy uses his background as a software engineer to develop recruiting, retention, and readiness management software currently in use by the Texas State Guard, and is in the process of being deployed to the Texas Army and Air National Guard. The T6 Software/Cyber Team has won three consecutive Best of Texas awards (2017, 2018, 2019). |

| 2026-01-23 12:00:00Z | Jan 23, 2026 | Tom Newell | Denton Community Food Center | Jan 23, 2026 12:00 PM |
Retired Telecommunications Director from the University of North Texas System (1981-2007). Licensed Peace Officer (Police) 1978-2012. Served on the Board of Directors for Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen (2009-2015). Volunteer & Leader with American Red Cross Disaster Response Teams locally and with Statewide deployments (2008-2015). Elected to the Town of Shady Shores Council in 2015 and presently serving a sixth term. Elected Mayor Pro Tem in 2019. When I retired in 2007 I wanted to remain engaged and active in my community. I had a neighbor that had volunteered at DCFC and recommended I check them out. DCFC was a good match for my organizational, leadership and logistical skills. After six months volunteering I was recruited to join the Board of Directors. In 2008 I was elected Board Chair (reluctantly on my part). The Board said I was the youngest member with the most energy to devote to the Food Center. The rest is history and a marvelous chapter in my “failed retirement”. |
